This is so interesting! I have so far only thought things from the perspective of a student. It's refreshing to read content that is tailored for teachers.
Here is the way I think about it. In order for our classrooms to e the student centered places that students need to learn and grow, we need to be fully present. If I am scattered, trying to do too many things at once, I am not present. So, why not allow all of us, for example, to have a couple of minutes to shift gears at the beginning of class, to get our brains into class, and the benefits pay off. A calm, focused, teacher can be the result of well designed routines....and this ultimately results in a calm, focused class where students can learn.
